GEO / AEO
GEO and AEO are disciplines for getting cited or referenced by AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.
Also known as: Generative Engine Optimization, Answer Engine Optimization, AI search optimisation
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) are about making a business's content visible in AI-generated answers — from ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. They differ from classic SEO in that AI models pick up on definition snippets, structured FAQs, and quantified numbers rather than links. Core components are definition paragraphs ("X is …"), FAQPage structured data, an `/llms.txt` file with service descriptions, and an explicit AI crawler policy in `robots.txt`. GEO and SEO overlap on technical foundation but require different moves in content design.
In Norwegian context
In 2026, GEO is still open territory for Norwegian SMBs. Few local competitors have a serious implementation, and customers report already using AI models to find vendors before searching Google.
