App development: mobile-first, one codebase, works offline

We build the app people actually use every day — on the phone, out at the customer — and connect it to accounting, line-of-business systems, and the office. If it needs to work without coverage, we build it for that.

TL;DR

App development at WOLLUM is mobile-first: we build apps for iOS, Android, and web from one codebase with React Native or Next.js, with offline storage, camera, push notifications, and sign-in, connected to the systems you already use. First version in production in 6–10 weeks. Our own product Jobbkontroll is in production with paying customers and is used from the phone on site and in the office. In the browser, the phone needs coverage when the entry is sent. Field apps we build for clients can be made to work offline.

App development is designing, building, and publishing applications for phones and tablets — and in practice for the web too, because modern frameworks let one codebase run on iOS, Android, and in the browser. A good app is built around the situation it is used in: fast actions on small screens, storage that works offline, and synchronisation when the connection is back.

What is included

  • Mobile-first design and prototype

We design for the three to five actions users perform most often on the phone, test the prototype with real users, and only build once the flow works.

  • One codebase for iOS, Android, and web

React Native or Next.js as a PWA, chosen by the need for camera, GPS, push notifications, and offline use. Publishing to the App Store and Google Play is included when needed.

  • Offline, sync, and integration

The app stores data locally and synchronises when the connection is back. Data flows on to accounting, ERP, or line-of-business systems via API, so nobody types the same thing twice.

Typical delivery

6–10 weeks to a first version in production

Discovery and prototype in weeks 1–2. Build with weekly deliveries from week 2. First version with a pilot group from weeks 6–10, then further development based on real usage. Apps with many integrations or their own backend: 3–6 months.

How pricing works

Pricing is set after a scoping phase, as a fixed price per phase.

What you walk away with

  • An app in production on iOS, Android, and web from one codebase
  • Works offline and synchronises when the connection is back
  • Full source code, data, and publishing accounts in your hands

Typical deliveries

The durations are our estimate for a first version of this type. Time and price for your project are set during scoping.

Field and service app

10–16 weeks

An app for field and service technicians: scan the QR code or pick the serial number, work through the checklist, take photos, log parts and hours and sign. Entries are stored on the device where coverage is poor, and sent when the connection is back. The service report is ready as a PDF the same day, the invoicing data is built from what the technician has already recorded, and the history on the serial number shows whether the job is a warranty claim or billable. We set the requirements together with the people who will use the app.

Frequently asked questions

What does it cost to develop an app?
We do not quote prices before the scope is known. Pricing is set after a scoping phase, as a fixed price per phase. The first step is a scoping phase with a fixed price, where we define the first version and give a binding quote for it.
Do we own the source code and the app store accounts?
Yes. Source code, design, data, and the App Store and Google Play accounts are in your name. We offer operations and further development, but you can take over yourself or switch vendors at any time.
Do we need separate apps for iOS and Android?
Rarely. With React Native we build one codebase that runs on both, and with a PWA the app can in many cases be installed straight from the browser without an app store. We choose based on the need for camera, GPS, push notifications, and offline use — not out of habit.
