Jobbkontroll: the SaaS product we build and run
Time tracking, project management, HSE/QA and billing data in one system for construction contractors, in use by paying customers. We built it and we run it ourselves; try it at jobbkontroll.no, and see here how it is built.

What Jobbkontroll is
- Made for small and medium-sized contractors in building and civil works: building and carpentry, civil works and plant, electrical and plumbing, and forestry. Hours, projects, HSE/QA and billing data sit in the same system, on the same data.
- On site, people clock in and out with one tap, and switch project with one tap when they move. Logging time should take less than half a minute, with gloves on.
- In the office, budget is measured against actuals in real time for each project, an alert arrives every morning when a project nears its threshold, and missing hours show up before the week is closed.
- Approved hours become billing data without being keyed in again. The hour logged on site is the same hour that ends up on the invoice.
The modules
Twelve modules sharing the same data
The hour that is logged becomes the project's cost, and the cost becomes billing data; every module below hangs off the same project.
- Time tracking
- Clock-in or manual entry on the right project, a rules engine for overtime and allowances, multi-level approval with week locking, TimeKonto and payroll export.
- Projects
- Budgets in hours and cost with threshold alerts, margin for fixed-price and time-and-materials work, phases, sub-projects and sharing with subcontractors.
- Reports
- Unbilled hours grouped by project and customer, mark as invoiced, the customer's timesheet as a PDF, budget report and CSV export.
- Expenses
- Outlays with a photo of the receipt, approval before reimbursement, and rechargeable expenses on the project.
- Absence
- Self-certified and doctor-certified sick leave, holiday and time off in lieu, with approval, a holiday calendar for management and absence shown in time tracking.
- HSE and QA
- Non-conformances and near-miss reports with photos and a case workflow, safe job analysis with signatures, safety inspections, checklists, an HSE handbook with read confirmation, a chemical register and a competence register.
- Machinery
- Machine register with logbook, cost log and service alerts for each unit.
- Planning
- Staffing plan for people and machines, with an alert when something clashes.
- Integrations
- Connection to Fiken for contacts, products, billing data and purchase vouchers with receipts, with a synchronisation log.
- Quotes
- Templates, quotes sent as a PDF by email, a customer portal where the customer accepts or declines, and accepted quotes that become projects.
- Crew list
- Site register under section 15 of the Norwegian Construction Client Regulations (byggherreforskriften), with check-in by QR code or geofence.
- CRM
- Sales follow-up on the contact register: opportunities, activities and follow-ups with due dates.
How it is built
Six decisions behind a live SaaS product
Jobbkontroll is a subscription product where many companies share the same solution. Every SaaS product has to settle the decisions below, and when we build for you, we make them with you in the very first version.
One system for the crew on site and the office
Jobbkontroll is used in the browser, from a phone on site and in the office, and both work on the same data. The hour clocked in is the project's cost straight away, and clocking in and out is one tap.
Many companies in one solution, without seeing each other
All companies share the same database, and the separation between them is built in two independent layers: all data access goes through a single entry point that sets which company the query belongs to, and the database also enforces its own rules on every table. If the first layer fails, the result is an error message, not another company's data. Five roles, from guest to administrator, are adjusted by each company itself.
Anything to do with money or documentation is enforced in the database, not just on screen: an approved and locked week cannot be changed, the audit log is written only on the server, and an hour cannot be invoiced twice.
An accounting integration with a log, built to be extended
Jobbkontroll is integrated with the accounting system Fiken. Contacts and products are kept in step, billing data goes across to Fiken, where the invoice is created, and approved expenses go across as purchase vouchers with the receipt attached. The synchronisation log shows what went across, and if Fiken rejects something, the reason appears in Jobbkontroll instead of the line disappearing. The product launched with one accounting system fully tested against a live API, not two half-finished ones, and the integration is vendor-neutral at its core: the next accounting system is a new adapter, not a rewrite.
Imports that show the result before anything is saved
Companies switching over bring customers, contacts, projects, employees and historical hours from a file. The import wizard reads CSV, Excel, JSON and XML, suggests which column is which, and shows the result row by row before anything is saved. Historical hours go through the same rules as an hour logged today.
An AI assistant with its limits built into the server
Byggmesteren, the assistant in Jobbkontroll, answers questions about the company's own figures. It only sees what the user has access to, because the restriction is applied on the server and not in the conversation, and it uses a small, fixed set of tools instead of an open-ended query language against the database. It writes nothing without the user confirming, it runs in an EU region, and the content is not used to train models.
Hosted in Norway, backed up in the EU
The application and the database run on servers in Sandefjord, Norway, and changes are tried out in a separate test environment before customers see them. Backups are stored in the EU and taken continuously, so the database can be restored to a point in time, not just to last night, and the restore is rehearsed every quarter on a fresh machine. Two-factor authentication cannot be switched off, customers have a data processing agreement, and exports from each area and deletion of the entire company are self-service.
We designed and developed Jobbkontroll, and we run it. You get the same approach to building when we build a SaaS product for you: several customers in the same solution, roles, integrations and operations from the first version, in code you own.
Jobbkontroll and our client projects share the same developers.

Fiken, with a synchronisation log for everything that goes across. The integration is built to be extended; if you need a different accounting system, contact Jobbkontroll at jobbkontroll.no.
In Norway. The application and the database run on servers in Norway, and backups are kept in the EU. Customers have a data processing agreement with Jobbkontroll AS, the subprocessors are listed with their countries on the security page, and exports from each area and deletion of the entire company are self-service.
Not yet. What you can get today is hours and project finances integrated with the accounting system you already have, built as an integration project with a fixed price per phase. At the same time, we are exploring an office and project edition for engineering and project-based companies. If you would like to help shape it, let's talk.
Want to help shape the office edition?
The office edition is being explored. You see what we are considering before anything is built, and tell us what is missing.
Yes. That is SaaS development: a product for your market, with several customers in the same solution, roles, integrations and operations from the first version, in code you own. We do not build on the Jobbkontroll code, but with the same approach. If your people need to log work without mobile coverage, we build that in from the first version. Pricing is set after the scoping phase, as a fixed price per phase. In the first conversation, we tell you what capacity we have over the coming months, before you decide.
Use what we have built, or have your own built
